Jenbacher Certification Program FAQs

Why do I need a certification?

Being a Certified Jenbacher Field Service Engineer is a professional recognition of your expertise; a symbol of confidence for your customers, colleagues and managers that you have been factory trained to meet Jenbacher‘s high expectations.

What is the Certification Program for Service and Commissioning Engineers?

For more information, please download our information flyer here.

What are 'Roles' and how can I see what's needed to be certified?

There are two training paths on which you can be certified - a mechanical and an electrical training path. A combination of both is of course also possible.
The two are divided into a Level 1 and a Level 2. Within these levels, a distinction is made between certain "roles" that result from the different engine types, in which you can then specialize accordingly.

Mechanical tasks are aligned with the standard maintenance events, electrical tasks cover troubleshooting and commissioning events. Depending on training courses completed and work carried out in the field, you can be certified at all levels and for all engine types. As soon as you are assigned roles by your manager or training contact, you can see your open training tasks under the My Training Status, when you are logged in.

Why was I assigned my roles?

Your roles are based on your education and work experience and were determined by your manager and/or your organization’s training contact.

I work on multiple engine types. Is it possible to have more than one role?

Yes, you can be assigned to multiple roles.

Does my experience and training history count?

To determine your certification status, the Training Center uses relevant information on all Field Service Engineers (FSE*) working on Jenbacher gas engines, such as:

  • Work experience (as a Field Service Engineer in general and with Jenbacher gas engines in particular)
  • Work carried out in the field (such as maintenance, commissioning and troubleshooting)
  • Attendance of INNIO training courses

Considering the above-mentioned criteria, the company’s training contact and/or manager and the Training Center will determine the roles you may already be certified for due to accreditation and which roles you will be assigned to achieve on your future training path.

*FSE - Field Service Engineer / Field Service Technician

How long does it take to get certified?

It will take approximately 6 to 9 months to get certified for a Level 1 role and another 12 to 18 months to get certified for a Level 2 role.

How do I maintain my certification so it will remain valid?

Once you have achieved a certification, it will be immediately valid until the end of the following quarter (expiration date = end of the current quarter + 1 quarter). As long as no eTrainings or Field Tasks are added or updated to the current role you obtained a Certification for, it will be extended automatically for another quarter. Otherwise, you must catch up on the new training contents that got added to the respective role before the expiry date of your certification in order to stay certified without an interruption.

Who has which responsibilities within my company related to the FSE Certification Program?

Who will confirm that I have successfully completed an eTraining?

Our training website will automatically show when you have completed an eTraining successfully.

I have completed an eTraining but it shows up as “not completed”, what should I do?

If you have completed an eTraining but it still shows up as “not completed”, please first check if all chapters have really been worked through carefully (indicated by the check mark). If this is the case, the certificate was also available for download and the eTraining still appears as “not completed”, please try again the next day. Sometimes it takes overnight to be implemented. If the problem persists, feel free to contact jenbacher.trainingcenter@innio.com regarding the respective eTraining (please attach the confirmation of completion).

What happens if I do not understand an eTraining because of the language?

Almost all eTrainings are available in German, English, Spanish, Italian, Russian and French. However, we continuously evaluate the demand for additional languages and may extend our current offerings. If you do not understand the content, your manager should organize an internal training session and go through the content with you to ensure you have access to the latest information.

What are Field Tasks?

Field tasks are monitored on-the-job training tasks, typically supervised by a colleague from your organization, who is already certified for the role the Field Task belongs to. Field tasks are carried out in the field during day-to-day work. Tasks for mechanical roles are based on the standard maintenance events; for electrical roles, they are based on troubleshooting events and commissioning tasks. Once a supervisor has confirmed that you can carry out a Field Task correctly and independently, this information will be entered into the Training Center website by your manager or training contact.

Who will confirm that I have successfully completed a Field Task?

A certified FSE (supervisor) – ideally from your organization – will confirm that you can carry out a certain Field Task correctly and independently. He/she then will share this information with your manager or the organization’s training contact who will enter that information into the Training Center website.

Is there still a final audit under supervision required to become certified for level 2 roles?

A final audit is no longer necessary from our end. However, all your Field Tasks must be confirmed by an already certified technician (supervisor) in the respective role. Once you have completed all your training (including eTrainings, Classroom Courses and Field Tasks) and your manager feels confident that you are ready to work independently in the respective role in the field as a final step within the certification process a so-called ‘Confirmation of Expertise’ form must be sent from your manager to the Training Center.
